Malacca High School was established on December 7, 1826. It is on record the second oldest school in Malaysia. The school opened with 18 pupils under T.H. Moore at the Parsonage House, on site it was later the General Post Office now Youth Museum Melaka.
Throughout the nineteenth century, the school experienced steady growth. In August 1878, the school was officially handed over to the Straits Settlements Government and was renamed “The Malacca High School,” and A. Armstrong was appointed headmaster. On September 1, 1884, the school assembled for the first time in a new, solid building constructed by the Public Works Department, accommodating 283 boys.
Malacca High School saw steady progress: the High School Cadet Corps was formed in 1902, and the first Boy Scout Group was registered in 1925. Under headmaster C. Beamish in 1921, the High School Old Boys’ Association, the Malay hostel, and the High School Literary Association were established, alongside the introduction of cricket, tennis, and rugby.
